ISLAND STYLE - Footwear Print Ad
Island Style sponsors various surfers and skaters with their footwear and uses those relationships to create rider-endorsed print ads. This particular skate sneaker was associated with George van Blerk and the brief simply sent through a few photos of him skating, along with product shots of the shoes.
As it's obviously aimed at a youthful audience, a looser graphic approach was required. Noisy graphic elements were created by pulling levels on textures from the actual shoes, as well as playing with the informal handwritten type I used for George's name.
The reggae colour scheme I simply picked up from the graffiti on the ramp he is riding.
